Happy Canada Day!

Ah Yes… July 1st, a day better known as Canada Day.

Bienvenue

I write this post to celebrate the forming of one of the most beautiful countries in the world… and for north america… the safest.

A country that has national healthcare and provinces instead of states. Where the beaver is the national animal (a workaholic lumberjack with dental issues) and hockey is the national sport (you gotta take out your aggression somehwere).

Canada is the nationality of the coolest comic book character ever created… Wolverine.

Ironically on the silver screen wolverine is played by an australian… nothing wrong with that… still one of our sisters in the commonwealth.

Speaking of silver screen… let me tell you a little about Canada’s contribution to hollywood..

Hollywood itself!

You will ask.. Canada contributed Hollywood to Hollywood? Yes, you’re not dyslexic. Back in the early days, a bunch of Canadians got together down South and spat out the Hollywood motion picture industry as we know it. The first permanent movie studio in Hollywood was built by Al Christie, born in London, Ontario. Jack Warner, also born in the lesser London, started Warner Bros. Studios. Louis B. Mayer, raised in New Brunswick, co-founded Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and came up with the dreaded star system. Mary Pickford, born in Toronto, co-founded United Artists and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (a.k.a. the folks who give out Oscars.) Three of the first four Oscars for Best Actress went to Canadian ladies, including Mary Pickford. Coincidence? Probably not. Canucks are crafty like that.

Want some more contributions to the entertainment industry by canadians… here’s another one:

The ginormous film format that’s responsible not only for those super cool nature movies that are only forty minutes long, but also the eye-popping action sequences in “Dark Knight,” was invented by Canadians. IMAX was, and still is, a Canadian company. And IMAX is way better than 3D. Oops, IMAX is now making films in 3D. And swallowing them whole, I’ll bet.

Research In Motion Ltd is a Canadian wireless device company best known as the developer of the BlackBerry smartphone. RIM is headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, and is a sponsor of RIM Park in the northeast of the city. It was founded by Mike Lazaridis, who currently serves as its co-CEO along with Jim Balsillie.

Yes that’s right… the only business phone worth having is made by canucks.. believe it!
