I came across this youtube video and thought of you guys.
The video showcases the best way to get VO sound from 5 different types of microphones:
- Neumann U87
- Sennheiser ME66 Shotgun
- Sennheiser 421
- Rode Podcaster
- MXL UBS .009
The video is presented by Jeff Dykhouse from howaudio.com. Jeff has a whole bunch of tutorials on his website.. not all targeted toward the VO artist but it all has to do with audio so you will find a few ProTools tutorials up there which I know a few of my readers use to record their VO work.
Personally the one that stood out the most out of all those different microphones was the MXL .009 because its got the simplest interface… the cheapest setup and a big fat sound.
but that’s just me.
Here are a few more videos about Voice Over work and technique… you guys might have seen these before but I don’t think its a bad idea for you to check them out again. Terri Apple is the one doing most of the talking in the videos … check out her new agency in Taji’s Voice Over Directory.
How to Break Into Voiceover (Part 1)
Understanding Voiceover Technique (Part 2)
Enjoy
Thanks for linking to those, Taji! Great stuff! 🙂 All the best, — Jodi
I’m with you on the MXL sound over the rest.
I enjoyed these videos who is Teri Apple anyway?
Thanks Taji,
Brian

Terri Apple is a voice over artist who recently started her own agency (representing other VO artists) and was recommended to me by fellow Canuck Jodi Krangle.
Apparently Terri only charges a per month fee to be represented by her and charges less than other agents… but you can get the rest of the details from Jodi.
