VO Online Advertising With Google Adwords

October 5, 2009  |  Articles  |  No Comments

Good Morning Folks,

Its been a busy few weeks. I launched a private business website as well as another free Voice Over community website called I Love Voice-Over Work I’ve also been on the hunt for a new apartment outside of Cairo (specifically in a new area called New Cairo … yes very original) and then finding an apartment and then finally leasing the place. It’s been pretty hectic and add to all that I’ve also had a crunch at work put all these different things together and you have a pretty stressed out Mahmoud Taji.

But I did have time during this period to get myself involved in some self promotion with Google Adwords.

Lets first break down a few of the different services that Google provides and that might help you promote your services or monetize your blog.

1. Google Adwords

This service allows you to use google’s search engine and targeted advertising system (adsense) to bring in more customers. In Google Adwords you can post pay or pre pay google to distribute a text based (or image based I guess) advert through out its network of advertising areas. This doesn’t just include google.com (the search engine) but also includes the different areas that google adsense ads are posted. You pay google per click. Google provides you with data regarding how effective your advertising is as per the impressions (how often your advert is shown) per click (how often people click on that advert) ratio.

2. Google Adsense

This service allows bloggers, webmasters, publishers of online content to make money off their websites by displaying advertising on their digital content. They are paid per click. This money is sent in the form of a check to you directly. They do not deposit the money into your Paypal account because paypal is a direct competitor of Google Wallet or whatever its called so … that kinda sucks.

Voice Over Fun by Mark La Pointe

So. There you are. Alone in a small room. In front of you, a glass wall separates you from the people next door. They are watching and listening and pointing. They have snacks. Despite the glass, about ever thirty seconds or so, you hear one of their voices thunder into your ears with criticism. Most of it is nonsense…gibberish. But you HAVE to listen and obey. This is not a nightmare. This is not a Stephen King movie. This is a voice over session. Well…it could also be a nightmare, I suppose.

There is nothing more unnatural than having a piece of paper full of words and clichés and bracketed terms thrust in your face, a set of dirty duct taped headphones from 1972 strapped to your noggin, while a handful of complete strangers give you the stink eye. Oh…and try to sound natural.

But as miscreants who scrape out a living as voice over actors, it is a reality. I have been in and out of a bunch of studios over the years, and have compiled a short list of tips and insider secrets that may come in handy to a few of you…jog the memories of even fewer of you…and bore most of you.

September 27, 2009  |  Articles  |  1 Comment

A few posts back I had showcased a few comic strips by multi-talented voice over artist Jeffrey Kafer. Jeffrey sent me an email a few days after I featured his comics on my blog and told me the following: Thanks for featuring my strips here (Taji's Voice Emporium). I've moved away from Stripgenerator (for licensing reasons) and simply created my own characters. They live and breath at their own website now: http://voice-overload.com. Thanks for the article! Drop by Jeffrey's site and show him your appreciation.  Best of Luck to Jeff and here's the url again: http://voice-overload.com Taji
