In the past week there seems to have been quite allot of activity in the Scam Alert section.
Because the scam alert section is static and not an article I was starting to notice that allot of the comments were basically getting hidden. That meant that people not subscribed to the Scam Alert section would have no way of knowing if there was an update or if some new scammer has started to operate.
So to make life easier for myself and for you guys I have decided to create a forum within TVE. The new forum will be called Taji’s Voiceover Oasis and it will contain an area where voiceover artists can go and speak their mind without having to wait for me to come up with a topic of discussion.
The link to the forum has been added to the navigation menu on the right (after About) and you’ll notice I’ve added 2 different verification systems so as to avoid any spammers registering with the forum.

Today’s post is a combination of different elements.
Working Toward Skype Conferences
First, and let’s get this out of the way. If you have Skype and you would like to chat with Taji (whenever he’s available – because remember I live in Cairo, Egypt) then add the account m.taji with the code TVE in your first comment so I know you are one of my blog readers.
I feel sometimes that sitting in-front of the computer and writing (in my head talking) to the screen sometimes gets me out of touch with how you guys are feeling and what you might be going through in the industry and I hope to remedy that by having honest-to-God conversations with those in the trenches and on the frontlines.
Note of Caution
I might not always be at the keyboard when my skype is on… I have it running about 8 hours a day and sometimes I need to do things away from the computer. Please take no offense if there is a delay and if you send me a message… be patient… I will answer back. I might not always be available for video chat … but I can usually either text or audio chat during the periods I am online.

So let’s (for the sake of argument) say that you and I are partnering together on a business venture. We are going to build the perfect Voice Over Casting Site.
It’ll be a Pay-To-Play site… and it will be an amalgamation of the best parts of all the voice over casting websites that are on the market these days… so It’s a Frankenstein’s monster (remember Frankie was the doctor… his creation was the monster) consisting of the best from Voices.com, Voice123.com, VOplanet.com & Bodalgo.com
What would it be like? What would it have?

This Weekend I did the unthinkable.
I told a paying customer not to send me anymore work.
For a year now I’ve been “courting” this voice over agency. The owner is a nice guy… a little quirky but nothing far outside the ordinary. I contacted him back in 2008 and we’ve been emailing back and forth. He would ask me to audition for a job… I would and then something would happen and someone else would get the job.
Nothing new there, I mean this is the deal with every single voice over casting agency I deal with. You win some… you lose some.
Very often you lose more than you win.. but the wins are sufficient to keep the ball rolling and the work coming in.

Misconceptions
One of the biggest misconceptions about the voice over industry that I have come across is that it is easy to be a full time voice over artist. Personally I would love to have enough clients to sustain me and my family month in and month out on the income that a lucrative voice over business can generate.
Alas my connections are not yet that vast and my income from VO is not yet sufficient to do so.
For those who are lucky enough to establish themselves in the voice over industry and making a full time living out of it things are increasingly looking hard. Economically the world is in a downward spiral that doesn’t seem to be stabilizing. Whether this is because the world’s governments are still spending with no regard for the fast approaching cliff’s edge (at this stage the US government’s reckless spending and loaning policies are the most vivid) or because of the collective belt tightening that almost all the mega corporations are starting to practice, being a full time voice over artist is just not bringing in enough to maintain some artist’s previous lifestyle.
