Upgrading your iPhone to System 3.0

Good Morning,

Today’s post concerns one of the business tools that I use daily to run my voice over business… my iPhone. I wrote a blog post about it a while back … for those of you who would like to read it Click here.

As you might know I own a 2G (first generation) Apple iPhone. Late last week Apple released system 3.0 for the iPhone and they promised a whole lot of new features that didn’t exist before in the old systems.

  • Cut and paste
  • Spotlight search feature
  • Sending Contacts
  • Landscape typing for messages and emails
  • New voice recording application
  • MMS
  • Internet tethering
  • Improved Bluetooth
  • Support for over 30 new languages
  • Read about these new features here

Now as you know I am not a big fan of Apple for the way they keep trying to mess with your system and controlling it…

Because I didn’t buy my phone through an Egyptian dealer (and hence paid about 4 times less  than the amount they ask for here) I went ahead and Jailbroke as well as unlocked my phone.

Definitions

Jailbroke: I added an application to the system that allows me to install applications that don’t necssarily have to go through apple’s approval system at the App store

Unlocked: I don’t have to use a predesignated carrier on my Phone… I can use whatever carrier I want.

For those who have the Apple 2G or 3G iPhone and wish to install the new system and jailbreak and unlock it.. I suggest you go here to choose the right tutorial to upgrade and unlock your phone

Since my system runs on windows I used something called Redsn0w… the tutorials will give you links for where to downloaded all the materials you will need to upgrade, jailbreak and unlock.

For those of you who use a second language on your iphone… I need to be able to read arabic text messages  and prior to system 3.0 the only support for arabic in the iphone was through third party applications… I used to use something called iarabization.

Now after upgrading I discovered that system 3.0 supports Arabic natively so I can read and send Arabic text messages without a third party application.

If you have any questions or need help with the process check out the tutorials… when all else fails… contact me and I’ll try to help you out.

Enjoy!
