Another Voice123 PR Debacle

Another Voice123 PR Debacle

peearrr

So I finally got around to Steven Lowell’s answer to my post Voice123 wants to turn my account inacctive

and loe and behold… I read this in his blog post answer (please keep in mind that he provided this answer to put my mind at ease)

” Now, I am sure that we all like to park ourselves on websites for good exposure, but the plain and simple truth is…You are either in this voice over business or you are not. It is not wise to throw your name on a website with the hopes they will find you, and then, not pay attention to it. You have to be there to answer when someone comes fishing around to offer work for you. In the eyes of those ‘looking for talent’, they have specifically stated they view this as false advertising. ”

First let me define the term Public Relations:

Wikipedia states:

Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the flow of information between an organization and its publics.[1] Public relations gains an organization or individual exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. Because public relations places exposure in credible third-party outlets, it offers a third-party legitimacy that advertising does not have. Common activities include speaking at conferences, working with the press, and employee communication.

(and here is the part I want you to read)

PR can be used to build rapport with employees, customers, investors, voters, or the general public. Almost any organization that has a stake in how it is portrayed in the public arena employs some level of public relations. A number of specialties exist within the field of public relations, such as Analyst Relations, Media Relations, Investor Relations or Labor Relations.

_____

See how I made that bold… I made that bold to bring it to your attention.

You (like the Bush administration) Don’t seem to understand what the term Public Relations means… You CANNOT talk to people that are either:

a) potential customers

b) existing customers

c) someone passing by your blog just reading and finding out this is how you talk to your talent

the way that you seem to think you can talk to them. The fact that you provide free accounts is your choice… if you think that gives you the right to be rude … because believe me this:

You are either in this voice over business or you are not.” is VERY rude… and NOT acceptable and VERY BAD PR.

Honest to God… creator of the heavens and earths I Don’t believe the state of the Voice Over industry these days… who do you think you’re talking to? The question should be are you guys TRYING to shoot yourselves in the foot? or is it just that nobody supervises what you are saying to the public.

Because honestly the Public (in Public Relations) is NOT happy and if the Public is Not happy then what will that spell for you in an economy that is on the brink of a depression that will make what happened in the 20s a field trip.

Public Relations is a sacred position in any corporation that has contact with the public… if you go around insulting your customers… be they existing or potential… then you really deserve whatever you get.

Grrrrr

  1. Deep breaths…. !…2…3… hehe

    Nice post Taji

  2. Hi Taji,

First, I am happy to know that someone is reading my blog.

Second, I have always believed in innovating and sharing what I know to do what is best from the general public. That is my definition of ‘Public Relations’…serve the public.

Also, I kind of found that the way you describe ‘public relations’ is more of a way to smoke screen people into believing something that is simply not good career advice, or make them happy for the benefit of financial profit. Yet in these days of smokescreens and false promises, I promised to do something no one else did…Tell the truth for the benefit of all.

You and I have something in common in that we both belonged to Voice123 a talent, yet, in my quest to help, I came upon knowledge unaware by many, and I felt it was my public duty to assist.

Maybe I take on a new approach to public relations, but I think it is working.

I may sound rough sometimes, but at the end of the day, what I say is for the benefit of assisting those who do not have the insight I have come across. I do think the word ‘debacle’ is a bit harsh in this case. People know what I say helps them, even if at first, it may sound like too much to handle.

For example, I did not know you had written this blog until a long-time Voice123 talent told me, and was very upset that you would attack me, and Voice123, especially given our most recent efforts to increase job opportunities.

They know I am a talent that used to belong to the site, and my mission is to help those who do not have the benefit of an inside look, in a new business method that is just 5 years old, yet filled with a centuries of experienced talents. My public relations aims at building bridging gaps in knowledge.

All the best to you, and I will always promise to speak the truth, regardless of who says what about me.

    ~Steven
